10 things people have said to me this pregnancy:

“Your face doesn’t look pregnant”

“You’re just so round! …and so OUT THERE!”

“You look like you could explode any minute”

“Hahahahahaha!” (while looking/pointing/gawking at my belly)

“You’re not waddling THAT badly” (that was from my husband)

“How different can carrying twins really be?”

“You’re. All. Belly!”

“Hi, BIG BELLY!”

“Tee-hee-hee-hee”

“You ain’t gonna drop that baby in the next few minutes, are ya?” (from worried patients that don’t want to have to deliver a baby cuz they are just there for a chest x-ray)

Hello, My Name Is __________

BabyNames_NameTag

As of the last post, we were 90% sure of what our baby boy’s name would be.  Now we are 100%, and thought we would follow our own rules and make it public.

Kieran Jeremiah White (pronounced Key-Erin)

We’ve loved this name for a long time, but didn’t want to make it official until we had ruled out all our other chosen possibilities.

The first name Kieran has an Irish origin, and means “dark” as-in eyes/hair.  Kieran was also an Irish Saint, and one of the twelve Irish apostles, known for his generous charity and scholarly wisdom.  There is also a Hindi version of this name that means “ray of light”, and it was my late father’s best friend’s name.

Jeremiah is a Hebrew biblical name meaning “God will raise up; God will set free”.

Last name White…well, that’s not really optional Smile

So there it is folks.  One name down, now one more to go.  We promise to reveal the girl’s name as soon as we come to a *mutual* agreement.

Baby Names

Kalyana and I created this blog to share family pictures, stories, and just everyday snippets of things we find entertaining. We’re calling this thing The Three to Five blog because, well, in approx. 50 days we’re growing from a family of three, to a family of 5!

Which brings us to today’s topic: Baby names. Naming a baby is hard work. It’s a task that shouldn’t be taken lightly, after all, this is a human who will have to live with this name their entire life. In our case, this is TWO humans – one boy, and one girl. Here are some “rules” we’ve decided on for naming the twins:

Nick and Kalyana’s Twin Naming Rules

  • No twin theme names. Sorry folks, not happening! Just because I name the boy something starting with one letter, doesn’t mean I have to start the girl’s name with that same letter. No, their names WILL NOT rhyme.
  • No super popular names. Since everyone wants a “unique baby name”, it seems common (these days) for just about ALL babies to wind up with unique names. If every baby has a unique name, then no baby has a unique name, because at that point, they’re all weird. Even so, no names on any top-50 baby names lists.
  • No crazy names, and especially, no ALTERNATE spellings! Z and X will probably not make the cut.
  • No surnames as first names. Sorry Jackson, Lincoln, Anderson, and McAnything. Just not our thing.
  • No names that will get the kid discriminated against on paper before a job interview. On paper, William is probably much more hirable than Zarquenthion (I just made that up – my apologies if this is actually your name.)
  • Name should have a meaning honoring to God. These kids are made by God, on this earth to serve God, to know Him, and to make Him known. Their names will honor Him. Doesn’t have to be out of the Bible necessarily, but should reflect positively.

One more thing. Who thought it was clever to reverse the word “heaven”, and start naming their baby girls Nevaeh? This name is the 25th most popular name in the USA. Maybe a pet peeve here, but I feel these kids will all go by nicknames when they get older.

Also, whenever we do come up with names, should we keep them a secret? Why? I’m not really worried about someone “STEALING MY BABY NAME!!!!!”. Baby names, I feel, are not patentable, copyrightable, intellectual properties. What do you think?

We’re 90% set on a boy’s name, and 0% set on a girls name right now. Let us know what you think of the above, and help us come up with a name. Thanks for reading the first blog posting!
